About her Art

One cannot disregard color if one wants to seriously come into contact with the painting of Katia Papaleo; her canvases are constructed from tones, glazes, iridescences, and brushstrokes that make the surfaces vibrant with magical and evanescent atmospheres. This love for color betrays a training under Benito Trolese, an artist from whom Papaleo also inherits the fantastic, sometimes hallucinated settings that pervade her canvases. However, hers is never a painting out of time, a mere exercise in style: the forms, constructed with the sole aid of color, reflect the reality with which the artist constantly clashes, the personal or social dimension that she lives with an intensity charged with emotion. It is these emotions, these feelings, carefully filtered through a painting that is above all reflection, that burst, like the colors, onto Papaleo's canvases, reaching us with the explosive force of a detonation.

The title of Katia Papaleo's exhibition “The Box of Emotions” is the exact reflection of her personality: a box overflowing with emotions, colors, reflections of life, moods, loves.
The joy of creating is never separated from a bitter thread that always accompanies all true painters. A bitter thread that disturbs in “discussion,” confrontation-clash, where the urgency and need to express comes before reason.
When reflection loosens, expressive instinct imposes itself with strength and conviction. The feeling in the “passionate composition” decanted by reason and sensitivity, as well as the whole complexity of her work, convinces us. Hers is a rich and exuberant artistic personality.

An always sensitive and evocative chromaticism constitutes, in my opinion, the main characteristic of the poetic unfolding of the figurative production of the artist Katiuscia Papaleo.
The young painter already shows an excellent command of technical and psychological gifts that she transfers to the canvas, arousing intense emotions in the viewer.
The varied objects ranging from still lifes to feline heads, from winged figures to meditative and melancholic scenes, are enveloped in a dreamlike and evocative atmosphere.
It could be said that the artist, through a considered expressionism, wants to show the interiority of her soul, which often holds onto the dream and the memory of moments gone by and unrepeatable, which can also be shared experiences of the viewer.
All this never borders on drama but often reaches the sphere of a nostalgia that can no longer be renewed but is so precise as to be transferred to the canvas.
