His Biography

MARINO MARINELLI was born in Trieste on February 23, 1954.

After completing scientific high school studies, he graduated in architecture from I.U.A.V. in Venice.
The beginnings of his artistic activity (early seventies) were influenced by an interest in Impressionist painting and his first works interpreted the most typical aspects of the local landscape, filtered and mediated by the emotional impression aroused.
Later, his interest in alchemy and esotericism led him to a gradual transition towards his current forms of artistic expression.
He held his first solo exhibition in 1976. Subsequently, he participated in several national and international competitions, receiving awards and recognition, and exhibited in both group and solo shows in various Italian cities.

The Critique

“…he is a man who has embarked on an adventurous journey within his own existence to seek rules, considerations, universal thoughts. These are expressed in his pictorial constructs... They are dark and obscure, they tell us of a descent into the recesses of the psyche and the soul, where crucibles, chalices, loopholes, initiatory ritual signs for introspection, for meditation appear.” (Lorenzo Micheletti – “Il Piccolo”)

“…Marino Marinelli has titled his exhibition “Towards Higher Worlds” and has presented recent works with a surrealist atmosphere that testify to the point reached by this interesting artist who took his first steps in the mid-seventies and who has been able to evolve his language through various phases of research. Today it can certainly be said that the high level achieved is also the result of his architectural studies and his applications in the field of construction and design, which have allowed him to achieve a precise sense of space…” (Antongiulio Rizzo – “ArteCultura” June 2003)
