| His Biography I WAS BORN IN ROME ON 14.05.57. I APPROACHED PAINTING AT A VERY YOUNG AGE, FREQUENTING THE CIRCLE OF PAINTERS TIED TO THE INFORMAL TRADITION. FOR MANY YEARS I WORKED AS A RESTORER FOR SEVERAL COMPANIES. DURING THIS PERIOD, I TRULY DISCOVERED HOW DEEPLY I COULD BE CONNECTED TO INFORMAL PAINTING AND EVERYTHING THAT SURROUNDS IT. I STARTED WORKING HARD IN A STUDIO I SET UP MYSELF, CREATING MIXED MEDIA TECHNIQUES, WITH IMMENSE SATISFACTION. EVEN TODAY, EVERY TIME I CREATE A PAINTING, AFTER SO MUCH EXPERIENCE GAINED, I FEEL A SENSE OF TORMENT, LINKED TO THE DESIRE TO PERFECTLY ACHIEVE WHAT I SEE IN THE DEPTHS OF MY BEING. CREATING MY CANVASES IN A PLEASURE, ALMOST ECSTASY, I TRY TO FIND THAT PEACE WHICH CHARACTERIZES THE PROJECT AND THE ACTIVITY OF A MODEST PAINTER LIKE MYSELF. Exhibitions held: * MARCH 2008, “IL CANOVACCIO” GALLERY, GROUP SHOW, ROME * JUNE 2008, “LA TELACCIA” GALLERY, ART REVIEW Turin- San Remo-Montecarlo. * SEPTEMBER 2008, “IL COLLEZIONISTA” GALLERY, ART FESTIVAL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, ROME * NOVEMBER 2008, O.A.D. Considering Alberto Burri—as he truly is—one of the greatest masters of the twentieth century, Lalli starts from his research to dig deep, down to the abysses of consciousness. Burned, abraded, cut, literally wounded and brought back to new life, the canvas undergoes a sort of purification. Sometimes one must destroy and corrode appearances to find the right path. In Grande cantiere (2008), a work exhibited on the occasion of the “Dialogues” project**, the title itself suggests getting one's hands dirty to build something new, which eludes the polished surface of reality to move towards the essence. It is a process that concerns the soul, even before the exterior and the canvas, or better yet, it manifests itself on the canvas only when it has reached total maturation in the subconscious, often in apparent disagreement with any logic. Even Homage to Burri and Untitled, both from 2009, are the representation of that continuous and incessant tear, an ideal laceration of what is most sacred for a painter, namely the canvas, an indispensable condition for the achievement of Truth. |
